Czech O-Tour 2025 locations: Spring in the coal mine

7. 11. 2024

The third, but not yet the last location of the Czech O-Tour 2025. This time we will visit the Hradec Králové Region for the first time. The spring round will take place on April 5, 2025.

If you have ever heard about coal mining in Czechia, you have usually talked about Ostrava or Kladno. Less known is Žacléřsko, where the first mention of mining dates back to 1570. Coal mining on an industrial scale dates back to the 1930s, when the Jiří, Marie, Julie and Eliška pits were opened. These pits led to the opening of new mines, which after 1945 were united under one plant called the Jan Šverma Mine. The underground mining was stopped at the end of 1992 and the site has been a mining museum since 2012.

This perex was intended to introduce you to the area you will taste at the beginning of April. The orienteering area is excellent and besides running among the original mining machines, there are also dumps that can turn the head of many an experienced orienteer. The mining atmosphere will be felt around every corner. There has never been a orienteering map before and you can expect two races in one day. The first one will be a sprint, even included in the WRE for the elite categories. The afternoon race will be a longer sprint this time and will also visit the wider area around the mine.

If the two races are not enough for you, we are preparing a special quiz for Saturday evening with our host Jakub Kvášovský (Calculator from TV show “Na lovu”). The next day, in the neighbouring terrain, there will be a short track of the East Bohemian Cup, when the arena will be exactly the same. You can also run this race and spend the whole weekend in Žacléř.
