Thank you, you were great!

Great fans, great competitors, just great orienteers… The GAPP Czech O-Tour and the European Youth Orienteering Championships in Moravian Karst are over and it’s time to look back not only at the results.

The first stage, a shortened long distance, showed the true face of the local terrain – steep slopes, undergrowth, thickets and slippery ground after rain, all complemented by long legs with a number of difficult route choices. The race was run in the same venue as the earlier-starting EYOC long, where the Czech team was able to enjoy two silver and two bronze medals right from the start.

On Saturday we moved to the Moravian capital, Brno, where the slopes and thickets were replaced by the fast terrain of Lesná. Especially on the longer courses, it was necessary to keep a cool head and think properly about long route choices, where you could lose a lot. Once again we apologize to the competitors who were affected by the improvied postponement of control 103. Before the end of the Czech O-Tour the EYOC sprint and the gold medals went to Finland, Estonia, Israel and Poland.

On the final day, summer arrived in all its “glory”, with temperatures rising above the tropical 30 °C and the sun’s rays digg under the skin. And maybe this is what czech athletes are looking forward to – in the relays they showed performances from the realm of dreams – 3 gold medals and one bronze were a beautiful end of the EYOC for them. Only in M16 Finland was able to take the gold medal in front of the czech team. The Czech O-Tour still had a final middle distance in a karst forest full of pits and thickets. More than 1000 competitors crossed the finish line and with the congratulations of the bear Kubik, the astronaut, and the light of the Lunalon, the last medals were handed out, this time to the best of the Czech O-Tour.
