Czech O-Tour 2022 will offer more than planned!

17. 1. 2022

7 races, 3 unique locations, year-round series, rich accompanying program. The organizers modified the concept of the organization and launched the Czech O-Tour 2022 website. Everything follows on from last year’s World Orienteering Championships, where the accompanying races for spectators and fans were canceled due to covid measures.

In the footsteps of WOC 2021

The subtitle of the entire event returns to last year’s Championship. We negotiated throughout the autumn of 2021 with representatives of various institutions or nature conservation authorities in order to allow everyone to run in the same terrains like the best competitors in the world at the World Orienteering Championship 2021. As it is not possible to organize a large-scale event in July in the area of relays and the long distance in the Kokořín region (despite permission in 2021), the organizing team tried to turn the negative news into a very unique event, which has no analogues worldwide: a slightly different year-round series in the best terrains of the WOC.

Three weekends

Lucky Seven. The series consists of seven races in the most beautiful terrains of the 2021 World Championship.

3 active weekends are beeing prepared:

  • March 26, 2022 – Terezín – To the fortress! – 2 unique sprints in the Terezín Fortress, where the sprint race took place at the World Championships 2021
  • July 16 – 17, 2022 – Jizera Mountains – Holiday comfort! – 3 forest races in the heart of the Jizera Mountains in the middle distance area at the World Championships 2021
  • October 29 – 30, 2022 – Kokořín area – The best in the end! – 2 forest races in sandstone rocks, where the world’s best orienteers competed in relays and on  long distance at the World Championships 2021

There is a participation limit for each race. If you want to be sure of your entry, we recommend that you enter directly for the entire series. In addition to the guaranteed entry you will get a discount on the entry fee and an extra gift.

Entries

Entries will open on February 1, 2022 at 20:22. Novices and competitors unregistered by ČSOS can use the entry form on the www.o-tour.cz website, which will also be launched on the same day.

We will plant a tree for each competitor

The forest is a gym for orienteering runners. We have teamed up with the Ivan Dejmal Foundation and we want to develop a project to increase the stability of forest stands. One of the basic problems of our forests is the occurrence of monocultural tree species, and because of this a number of places have been affected by bark beetle calamity. For each competitor registered for at least one Czech O-Tour 2022 race, we will plant one tree (usually edible, beech, larch or linden), which are necessary for more stable and natural forests in the long perspective. Do you want to support the project even more? We will plant two trees for each entry in the entire series.

Great club competition

As part of the Czech O-Tour, we are preparing a club competition, because the club is the basic unit of the entire orienteering society. A maximum of 14 club members can score points, the specified number of best results in the given classes is calculated for each race (the winner of the class gets 100 points, the other percentage less points according to the time loss up to twice the winner’s time). The best club will receive the Club of the Year 2022 Trophy, gift vouchers to purchase goods worth CZK 30,000 in the Sporticus.cz store, 30x magazine Svět běhu subscription for 2023! At the end of the year, the top 5 clubs in the overall rating of the club competition will be awarded valuable prizes.More information can be found in the Club competition section.

Even for novices

Czech O-Tour 2022 – In the footsteps of WOC 2021 is a slightly different series of races. For all generations. For those who would like to try it for the first time, even for those who have decades of experience in orienteering. Our event is not for elite level competitors only, we believe that every runner at the finish line is a winner. We want to support all those who want to try orienteering. For them, we have prepared special colour coded classes that indicate individual levels of difficulty, similar to what you know from alpine skiing. We also support those who are afraid to be in the forest alone and can complete the course in a couple or as a family.
